Marketing is life - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Marketing is life - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Ask these following questions to yourself: Why do I choose to purchase the items or brands that I do? What creates this preference? What drives the decision making in my life? How do people perceive me and what do they base these views on? Am I being controlled by the organizations that surround me? What do employers base their decisions on? How can I position myself accordingly? The decisions that you contrive and the life you live is all affected by marketing, in its entirety and cannot be escaped, unless you shut yourself off from the world that surrounds you. You are judged based on perception and that perception is regulated by how well your market yourself to others or convince them that you fit the part or are deserving of their time. The media drives its content and targets it directly at you throughout your life in many different fashions. They utilize media outlets, such as television, magazines, the internet, billboards, subways and promotional material such as coupons, in order to entice your purchasing habits and control your way of life. Some might believe this invades our privacy or feel that is a negative habit that constantly affects our lives. Numerous people think that commercials are a plain waste of time. I will not argue any of these conversations, BUT I do believe we can use marketing in order to promote ourselves and be successful in o ur own lives. Think of yourself as a brand and marketing as a tool you can use in order to generate influence and success. If you view yourself as one of these companies that try and convince and entice others to invest in them, you will do quite well. Your goal should be to have others invest in you, in terms of money, time, and opportunities that may arise.

3 Skills to Master in The Gig Economy - CareerMetis.com

3 Skills to Master in The Gig Economy While the conversation is not a difficult feat, communication could be. As a professional when you are interacting with your clients or colleagues, being on the same page is very important. If there is a gap, it leads to misunderstandings and unpleasantness later. When you are clear in your communication, you understand the objective clearly which not only helps the end result, it also help you set reasonable deadlines to achieve these goals.evalWhile communicating with clients, it is always beneficial to capture and share minutes of meetings.Keep your clients updated on the progress with periodic calls or emails. It is equally important to raise red flags in times of distress. This practice not only helps to avert serious situations, but it also builds trust with a new client.Even if your client is in the same location, there are very fewer chances that you will meet them regularly.A lot of us today rely on tools like Zoomor Skypeto connect. Ensure you are in places with good connectiv ity while using them. Not only it ruins the client’s experience, but frequent disconnections also hamper the flow of the conversation.evalYour mic and speakers should be in good condition and there is no static interference. If your client’s native language is different from yours, scripting your talk or at least the main points will be helpful.Use Google Translateto check if you are using the correct language to convey what you want.Communication is anyway an important social skill for life. In a Gig Economy, it becomes a lot more important because of the technology, frequency, and variety you can have to cater to.evalMastering it means getting the second most aspect of your job right, first most is the actual job.2) Time ManagementevalGiven the number of balls that you have to juggle, it only becomes pertinent that the time is managed wisely.Multiple projects, multiple clients mean multiple things to do apart from the actual work. Add to it your personal checklist of learning so mething new or maintaining yoga practice.Time management seems simple, yet may be very difficult to master. Self-discipline is one key ingredient to be successful in this area.Even if you are fairly confident of your time management skills, try this experimentto see if it is actually the case.As mentioned in the article “Without data, it’s easy to paint an erroneous picture of how we spend our time, whether it’s inadvertently exaggerating the number of hours we work or assuming we’re wasting more time than we really do”.Once you have a clear understanding of how you spend your day. You can reorganize it for optimum productivity. You could use time tracking apps to assess where all you are spending your time and where can you make improvements. It will also help you spend the only a requisite amount of time on a particular task.If you are constantly spending more time on some tasks than you intend to, it may be time to ask for help or outsource them to someone else.3) Report ing ResultsevalThe term reporting usually intimidates everyone. Most people think of it as fancy graphs and charts which only an expert in analytics can produce. It is true for a scenario where financial results are to be presented or funding is to be seeking, it is not the case for individual projects.Reporting, in plain simple terms, means you should be able to communicate the impact of your work in an objective manner, which a client can quickly grasp. For e.g. if you are a graphic designer, you may want to talk about the number of downloads or shares for the last infographic you worked on.evalIdentify the key metric which a new client may get attracted to and report them. Even a simple table in any spreadsheet tool would work. This also means that you can extend your relationship with the clients even after the engagement has ended. An occasional email to check on results, help you be in the top of mind.Mind you, it doesn’t mean reporting the client’s confidential data, it only means quoting results of your endeavor. You can mention it as one of the requirements at the beginning of the project. If your contract clearly mentions how you will use these results, no client should object. If you present your next portfolio with statements like “ last engagement led to XX “, it is bound to make your proposal shine when compared to others. These results are not a replacement or modified version of client feedback. These are supposed to complement and solidify your position as a seasoned professional. You can use a free tool like Google Sheetsfor data capture and analysis. The functionalityprovided is more than enough to gather meaningful insights.Given the novelty of the Gig Economy, both service providers and clients may take some time before they find the right rhythm to work together. As a service provider, the onus lies on you to adjust your rhythm to suit clients.Even if you have great client testimonials, there is work to be done in the area of building trus t with new clients. Apart from the functional skills, that trust can be built with these skills which are common across industries, geographies, and professions.A little customer delight goes a long way in building a positive reputation, which is the currency of the Gig Economy.

Reasons to stop hiding behind your computer

Reasons to stop hiding behind your computer A month ago I wrote this post about turning off your computer. Lately, I have been giving this advice to job seekers a lot. TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER! During the normal business hours (7 am 8 pm) you cant afford to not be seen. There are plenty of hours in the day in which you can log in, if you feel you must. Job seekers are hiding behind their monitors. It is easy to submit a resume and cover letter online. And it is easy to say Ive done my part, the rest is up to the hiring company. Thats convenient. Put the ball in someone elses court. Here are reasons why you should feel comfortable logging off: Some experts say that by the time a job posting hits the website, it has already been filled or there is a pipeline of candidates. Your computer isnt going to offer you a job. Being a best kept secret is not a good marketing strategy for you. Politicians dont sit at home when they are running for election, why would you? Have some fun, get out of your house and turn every opportunity into a chance to meet someone new. You never know who or what theyll know.

Riley Guide to Writing a Perfect Resume

Riley Guide to Writing a Perfect ResumeIt's not hard to find online guides to help you write a perfect resume. But there are some tips and tricks that will help you a lot with the job search. One of the most important things you have to remember is to include your full name on your resume. Not just your first and last name. Remember that the person reading your resume will read it as well, so it needs to be exactly who you are. When writing a resume, avoid adding any other names. These are just more to type in when they should already be on the document. So if you are going to apply for a position that requires more than one field of expertise, then consider combining all the fields into one or even two separate documents.Make sure that your career path is clearly stated. In today's cutthroat job market, having an alternate career path is going to give someone an idea that you may be looking for another job. Many employers will not be able to tell if you are looking for a new position or just looking for something else, so make sure you are clear. Before you submit your resume, you want to make sure that you take a moment to review your previous employment history. This can be a tedious process, but it is absolutely necessary. You want to make sure that you are clear about what you have done for previous employers and if you have had any problems. After reviewing your previous employer, find the contact information of the former employer. You want to make sure that this person knows that you are submitting this resume for them. You can do this by writing a letter addressed to the former employer. This is a great way to give the employer some idea of how you might fit into their company. You should also put your cell phone number on your letter so that they can reach you if you need them. That will show them that you are serious about getting the job.Finding the right Riley guide to writing a perfect resume is easy. Just be sure to take the time to thoroughly review your past experience and to be sure that you are making an educated decision.
